First full transit day back to Honolulu and I am tired. I did not feel like writing anything last night so I could get some sleep. Sleep was never enough and today started good until a software produced by M*&^%$@(t did not work like advertised. Does it ever? Most of the day spent researching for answers to make it work and still did not find it. Oh, there were answers but not for my situation. There is always tomorrow to look at the thousands and thousands of results found in search engines.
The deck crew spent all day washing down the ship readying for our entry into Pearl Harbor and Ford Island on Wednesday. We want to look good due to our high profile, as the press will be waiting for us. Of course, the ship’s crew is never featured on the news. I have seen some of our newsreels and most of the administrative personnel from the ship interviewed are gone. The scientists get the bulk of publicity and why not. They do the diving and see these things first hand. I imagine interview with crewmembers may not be very interesting. So Roz, what did you see on this cruise? Roz: I am not a diver but the ship’s ET and I did reset the scientific computer after it had crashed sometime in the night. Several NOAA groups for El Nino and climate studies use the data so my significance is…. Not very exciting is it? Similar to when I was in Naval Aviation. The pilots always got the glory and the movies only featured them. The poor ground pounders who kept the planes flying, well they were good to serve coffee and that was it. If you remember “Top Gun” how many maintenance people did you see in the movie? I rest my case. Oh yes, Top Gun were fighter jocks and I had one tour with an F-14 squadron out of Miramar and it was nothing like the movie. Maybe the ready room was different but not in the shops. The best duty I had was with a C-130 squadron out of Moffett Field, California.
I hear there is a party somewhere but an invite was not in my mailbox so I will be working this weekend. As I said earlier in this blog, this year has not been my year for recognition, getting training or invited to parties. There is a party and barbecue this Saturday sponsored by the folks from the last cruise but I was not on the last cruise. The Letter of Appreciation, I forwarded it to my partner. I feel like the organization’s Rodney Dangerfield this year.
This one is short and I will leave the tribute to the shack. I am getting up early tomorrow and start an hour early. I bid you goodnight on the transit back to Honolulu.
