January 11 2010 - Day Six on the Ka'imimoana

Day Six and the scenery around here look like day five. We are sailing through Kiribati waters but will not see an island until we get to Malden. Even then, there is no civilization there as it is a bird sanctuary. Several years ago some people got sick from eating a fish that was caught near that island. Ever since then, Malden has been a no fishing zone.

Today consisted of more computer work, upgrades and preventive maintenance. Tomorrow will be certification, tests and more updates. The excitement is too much for the heart! By the end of tomorrow it will be nine days until we dock in Samoa. No photos again today as what are there to take pictures of? When I was on here a few years back the ship had an unofficial photographer. Pictures were going out everyday and posted on the ships old we site. The difference is he took photos of people and relatives and loved ones ashore could see what they were doing. I will not take photos that show faces of people or inside the ship for privacy reasons. Plus, this isn’t that type of blog.

I have this infection in my eye and it has gone for three days. Not much you can do but to clean it out often. I hope it does not turn out to be a pink eye. I did see the ship’s doc and was told to keep it clean. I may have picked it up while working out in the gym. It is aggravating and very uncomfortable.

I have to hit the rack. The seas are not as rolling as previous nights. Maybe I can get some good nights sleep to greet the new day.

Goodnight from Equatorial Pacific.
