Today was just another day of work at sea. It is Sunday but another workday. I normally set it aside to do admin tasks but I wanted to get to the brass tacks to some of the issues that were bothering me. So I did and was in a challenging mood. Progress I did make and so I am happy with today’s results. It was all network related and when discovered, gee why didn’t I think of that before? I put in ten hours and resolved one of the big issues hanging over my head. My domain servers had no link to the backup server. In other words if I suffered a major crash I would have to rely on files that were created before the network changeover.
Near Full Moon with Passing Clouds in the South Pacific
It is almost a full moon tonight over the South Pacific. I am sure tomorrow it will be more and I would like to get a photo like the one I took at Midway last year. I love full moons in the South Pacific and before we head north I want to take another look at Southern Cross. I anticipate next time I see the Southern Cross is when I am back to pick up my stepson from Samoa to bring him to the US. That depends on Immigration as well as his interview at the US Embassy in New Zealand.
Near Full Moon over the South Pacific and Moonbeams on the Water
We spent most of the day on the south end of Tutuila. The same area where we rode out the “tsunami” and the day was nice and HOT! It was tempting to jump in the water and swim a few miles towards the white sandy beach. I have been to the beach just once since I arrived in Samoa. It was to my old stomping grounds at Brenda’s Beach Fale’s in the village of Tafatafa in Western Samoa. Her resort was wiped out by last September’s tsunami but she rebuilt it quickly and you would never think anything had happened. Stupid me as the day we went there I forgot my snorkeling gear. Good news was they lowered their prices by ten tala to $30 tala for day rental.
Brenda's Beach Fales at Tafatafa, Western Samoa. Photo taken in 2007 but looks the same today.
Tonight we cruised away from Tutuila to go to South Bank, about 32 nautical miles south of Pago Pago. We are there for mapping and head back to Pago tonight to drop off and pick up people in the morning. Afterwards we will be in transit to Rose Island, approximately 170 nautical miles east of Pago Pago. I will have a long day tomorrow installing a new radio in a small boat as well as rewiring it and the depth sounder. I don’t mind the work except the rack the boat is located in is in a strange position and climbing it up for this old man will be a challenge. Hope my legs and knees hold up.
Goodnight from the South Pacific
