Honolulu September 9 2009 09/09/09

The day came and unlike the past, it comes with dread. It has not been easy picking up and leaving home for several months since Lev’s arrival. To top it off, it seems I am always forgetting something after I leave and remember what it was halfway to Honolulu from Seattle. This time I forgot to advance the checks for two months rent to the proprietor. I still have 21 days to figure it out so I will do something. No, wait, make that one week, as I will be sailing out to sea next Thursday.

The plane was over an hour late leaving Seattle. Therefore, I was about an hour and fifteen minutes late getting into Honolulu. I text message my partner from Seattle to tell him of the delay because the plane I came in is usually the plane that takes him back. We did meet at Honolulu airport and exchanged turnover information as well as the latest at the office. Of course, the move to Newport was on our minds and my partner has only six years left until he takes an early out retirement.

The flight over the Pacific was rough. We hit much turbulence along the way and it seems to get worse when the flight attendant came around with the snack cart to pass out snacks and drinks. I used to fly Hawaiian to Honolulu in the past. Northwest won the government contract and it has been Northwest and now Delta, due to the merger, ever since. I am not a Northwest fan ever since they left a group of us stranded at Portland International after Seattle was fogged in December of 2002. The consolation was I rented a car and drove from Portland to Seattle with two beautiful young female students in their late teens itching to catch their connection from Seattle to their homes back east. Unfortunately, since they were too young to drive a rental, I drove the three-hour trek to Seattle solo while they fell asleep. The older student (19 years old) tried to stay awake to keep me company. When we arrived in Seattle, I dropped them off at their respective airlines and they gave me $50 each to help pay for the rental car. I must have an honest face for them to approach a complete stranger to share a rental car and drive with them. On the other hand, my face is so damn ugly that I could do no harm.

My body is still on Seattle time while I am physically three hours behind it. I will hit the sack anyway after dinner at Island Burgers at Ale Moana Mall. It was still veggie burgers for me. I will say good night from Honolulu on the first day of this cruise period.
