Janaury 6, 2010 First Full Day at Sea

First full day at sea and the sea was calm. You could not ask for better weather. We are approximately 180 nautical miles south of the Big Island of Hawaii steaming towards the 155-west longitude line. The day went fast with computer set up and bench testing of the repeater. Tomorrow will be more of the same. Time goes by fast as whenever I am away from home that is what I want to happen.

I did not take any photos today as I spent most of the day inside and did not venture out on the weather decks. Maybe tomorrow I will snap a few for the blog during breaks for fresh air. I am sure you are tired of sea photos, as the scenery does not change, no matter where we are in the Pacific. I would like to get snapshots of dolphins or whales but am not sure if that opportunity will arise. This is the ship where I have seen majority of marine wildlife.

I went back to the gym this evening after several weeks of “sabbatical.” I got on the scale and YIKES! I will not divulge on how much I weigh but I need to get started again. I recall how good shape I was in a dozen years ago and I know I can trim down and remember vividly what I looked like then. So having been in muscular and in shape was no fantasy for me. I just need to sustain the motivation I had back then. I did not feel right until I worked out. Events do change and if they are stressful, then going to the gym is the last thing on my mind.

As for food, I have watched my portions while sailing and do eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. I still do not consume meat or poultry. I have an occasional fish but stay with vegetables. I do not think I can become a full-fledged vegan as to me it is too restrictive.

One thing I do quite a bit at sea is write, read books, listen to classical music or jazz. Since we are limited to one channel, and that is Fox News, there is no reason to turn on the tube unless there is a good movie. Unfortunately, most of the movies I have seen or just do not sound appealing. Therefore, it is writing and reading with music in the background. Funny thing is when I am not around “L” spends her time listening to her music and homework. When we are together, she is not a aficionado of my type of music while writing or reading books gives her the impression I am ignoring her.

I have some writing to do and afterwards take a shower and read more about Lincoln before my eyes seal shut for the night.
